You bought Clay.
You watched the tutorials.
You built a table.
You spent $400 in credits on a Claygent run. It returned 60% empty rows. You still don’t have a list you can actually send to.
This is the most common story we hear from founders and GTM operators in 2025.
Clay is genuinely the most powerful prospecting infrastructure available today. It’s also the fastest way to burn your budget if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.
Six Figure Consulting has been running Clay as the core engine of our outbound system since 2023.
We have built Clay workflows for over 20 clients. We have enriched tens of thousands of contacts. We have also contributed to over 2,000 booked appointments. All of these were sourced through Clay-powered pipelines.
This page explains exactly what we’ve built, what we can build for you, and how we price it.
What Is Clay and Why Does It Matter for B2B Outbound?
Clay is a data enrichment and automation platform. It connects to over 75 data providers such as Apollo, LinkedIn, Clearbit, BuiltWith, Crunchbase, Hunter, Prospeo, and many others. This platform lets you build automated workflows.
These workflows can research, score, and personalise outreach to B2B prospects at scale.
In plain English: Clay is what separates a 1% reply rate from a 7% reply rate. Generic cold outreach to raw list data produces noise. Clay-powered outbound, built correctly, produces revenue.
Here’s what makes Clay different from every other enrichment tool:
- Waterfall enrichment — Instead of paying one provider for all your data, you avoid getting 40% misses. Clay queries providers in sequence. Provider A first. If no result, Provider B. If still empty, Provider C. You only pay for the hit, not the attempt across every provider.
- Claygent — Clay’s AI research agent. You write a prompt and point it at a company website, LinkedIn URL, or Google search. It returns structured data, such as company summaries, recent posts, job postings, tech stack signals, and founder bios. One Claygent run can replace 45 minutes of manual research per prospect.
- Signal detection — Clay can detect if a company is actively hiring for sales roles (via job boards). It can also identify if a company recently received funding (via Crunchbase). Additionally, it can find out if a company uses specific technologies (via BuiltWith). Finally, Clay can detect if there have been executive changes (via LinkedIn). These are buying signals you can’t get anywhere else.
- AI-powered personalisation — Connect Clay to GPT-4 or Claude. Generate personalised cold email first lines at scale. Each one references a specific signal pulled in the same workflow.
The problem isn’t that Clay doesn’t work.
The problem is that Clay has a steep learning curve. It has a credit system that punishes experimentation.
It is so complex that most operators spend more time configuring it than using it. That’s where Six Figure Consulting comes in.
What Six Figure Consulting Has Built on Clay — Real Workflows, Real Results
We don’t offer Clay as an add-on service. Clay is the foundation of every outbound system we run. Here’s a specific breakdown of the workflows we’ve built and operate:
1. The Six Figure Consulting Signal-Scoring Pipeline
Every contact that enters our Clay tables gets a numeric ICP score based on eight buying signals. We built this scoring system from scratch and it’s the single biggest reason our campaigns outperform generic cold outreach benchmarks by 3–5x.
| Signal | Points | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue $500K–$5M | +3 | Core ICP sweet spot — big enough to afford Six Figure Consulting, small enough to need us |
| Headcount 10–75 employees | +3 | Past solo practitioner, not yet enterprise — outbound scales fastest here |
| Actively hiring SDR/BDR/AE role | +3 | Strongest signal: they know they need outbound but haven’t solved it yet |
| CRM detected (HubSpot/Salesforce) | +3 | Has infrastructure to handle leads — not starting from zero |
| No outbound tool detected | +2 | Gap in their stack = clear value proposition for Six Figure Consulting |
| Funded in last 12 months | +2 | Budget available, growth mandate from investors |
| New VP Sales hired in last 90 days | +2 | New exec reviews all vendor relationships in first 90 days |
| Headcount grew 20%+ last quarter | +1 | Growth stage — scaling pipeline is a live problem |
Contacts scoring 12+ are Tier 1: they get full Claygent research, personalised first lines, and priority sequencing. Scores 7–11 are Tier 2: standard enrichment and template-personalised copy. Below 7 is Tier 3: held until they hit a trigger event.
This single framework — qualify before you enrich — typically saves 25–40% of monthly Clay credits compared to running enrichment on every imported row.
2. The Waterfall Email Enrichment Stack
Raw Apollo data carries real-world email accuracy of 65–80%. EMEA data drops to 60–73%. At those rates, your cold email bounce rate will exceed 2% — the threshold at which Gmail and Microsoft begin spam-classifying your domain.
Our waterfall stack layers four providers in sequence, running each only when the previous returns empty:
- Apollo (built-in) — Free if already in Apollo’s database. Hit rate ~65%.
- Prospeo — LinkedIn-scraped emails, stronger for mid-market US companies. Adds ~15% coverage.
- Hunter.io — Domain-pattern matching, useful for structured company email formats. Adds ~8%.
- ContactOut — Final fallback, pulls from CV databases and GitHub. Adds ~5%.
Combined target email find rate: 75–85%, versus 55% with Apollo alone. Every email found then runs through Bouncify validation — Valid, Risky, or Invalid. Only Valid emails get exported to Instantly. Bounce rate result: consistently under 2%.
3. Claygent Research Prompts for B2B Outbound
Claygent is Clay’s AI web research agent. Most operators use it for basic company summaries. We’ve built and tested 12 Claygent prompt templates specifically for B2B outbound personalisation:
- Founder credibility hook — Visits the founder’s LinkedIn bio and extracts their most impressive credential in one sentence. Used as the opening reference in cold email.
- Recent LinkedIn activity scrape — Pulls the company’s 3 most recent LinkedIn posts and summarises the main topic. Used to write openers that reference something they actually care about right now.
- Active job posting detector — Scrapes their careers page and confirms whether an SDR/BDR/Sales role is live. Confirms the hiring signal from Apollo before it’s used in copy.
- Tech stack via BuiltWith — Detects CRM and sales tools currently installed. Confirms if they have HubSpot or Salesforce (positive) and whether Outreach, Salesloft, or Instantly is already running (disqualifier).
- Company website value prop summary — Visits the homepage and summarises what they do in one sentence, in plain English. Used to make cold email sound like it was written by someone who actually read their site.
These prompts took months to refine. The difference between a Claygent prompt that returns clean structured data and one that returns “N/A” 60% of the time is in the instruction specificity, the fallback conditions, and the output format constraints.
4. AI Personalisation at Scale (Clay + Claude/GPT-4)
Once Claygent has extracted the research, we configure an AI column (either Claude or GPT-4) with a carefully engineered prompt that writes a signal-based cold email first line for each contact. Not a template with a variable. A genuinely specific, observation-based opener tied to what the research found.
Example output for a US MSP hiring an SDR:
“Noticed [Company] posted for a Business Development Manager last week — usually means the referral pipeline isn’t keeping pace with where you want to take the business.”
That line is generated automatically by Clay at scale. It reads like a human wrote it because the signal behind it is real. This is the type of personalisation that moves reply rates from 1–2% to 7–10%.
5. Automated Export to Instantly and HeyReach
The final step of every Clay table is an automated export. We configure Make.com to watch the Clay table for new Tier 1 and Tier 2 rows, extract the relevant fields, and push them directly into the correct Instantly campaign or HeyReach sequence without any manual work. New qualified leads flow into live campaigns automatically. Zero copy-paste. Zero import files.
The Most Common Clay Mistakes We Fix
Before we describe our services, it’s worth naming what we see most often when clients come to us after trying Clay themselves. These mistakes are extremely common — and every single one burns credits while producing worse results.
Mistake 1: Running enrichment on unqualified rows
The most expensive Clay mistake is importing 1,000 contacts from Apollo and immediately running waterfall enrichment on all of them. Without an ICP qualification filter, you’re spending credits enriching contacts who would never qualify as customers anyway. Build the ICP Pass/Fail filter first. It takes 30 minutes to set up and saves 25–40% of your monthly credit allocation.
Mistake 2: Poorly constructed Claygent prompts
A Claygent prompt that says “research this company” will return inconsistent, unstructured data that’s useless for outreach personalisation. Effective Claygent prompts specify exactly what field to look for, where to look for it, what format to return it in, and what to return if the data doesn’t exist. Most operators don’t realise that failed Claygent runs still consume credits — so a poorly written prompt costs the same as a successful one.
Mistake 3: Using only Apollo for emails
Apollo’s built-in email enrichment is convenient but limited. Relying on it exclusively produces 55% find rates and 25–35% bounce rates — enough to blacklist your sending domain in weeks. The waterfall stack described above is not optional if you’re running serious cold outreach volume.
Mistake 4: Skipping validation
Even after waterfall enrichment, some of the emails found are invalid, catch-all addresses, or role-based emails that bounce. Running every enriched email through Bouncify before export is non-negotiable. This single step is the difference between a 2% bounce rate and a 15% bounce rate.
Mistake 5: Mixing ICPs in one table
Running US MSPs, UK consultants, and GCC IT firms in the same Clay table is a recipe for confused scoring, mismatched personalisation, and broken export logic. One table per campaign. One ICP per table. This is a discipline issue as much as a technical one — and it’s one of the first things we establish when onboarding new clients.

This is the exact blueprint we use internally. Not a watered-down version for sale — the real one.
Clay Pricing — What to Budget
Clay’s pricing structure is a common source of confusion and budget overruns. Here’s a plain-English breakdown of what you’ll actually spend:
| Clay Plan | Monthly Cost | Credits Included | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $149/month | 2,000 credits | Testing and small batches only |
| Explorer | $400/month | 10,000 credits | Most Six Figure Consulting clients — 300–400 contacts/month with waterfall |
| Pro | $800/month | 50,000 credits | Agencies running multiple client campaigns |
Credit consumption reality check: A single contact running through the full Six Figure Consulting pipeline (ICP filter + waterfall enrichment + Bouncify + Claygent + AI personalisation) uses approximately 15–25 credits. At 10,000 credits/month on the Explorer plan, that’s 400–600 fully processed contacts. Factor in 20–30% credit waste from failed lookups and you’re realistically getting 300–400 clean, export-ready contacts per month — which is exactly what Six Figure Consulting’s Outbound Engine is calibrated to deliver.
Top-up credits cost $0.18–$0.24 per credit depending on volume — significantly higher than the per-credit rate inside a paid plan. This is why optimising your table logic to minimise failed lookups matters so much. Every failed Claygent run, every missed waterfall step, every enrichment call on a disqualified contact is money wasted at top-up rates.
How Clay Fits Into the Full Six Figure Consulting Outbound Stack
Clay is never a standalone tool in our system. It’s one layer in a connected pipeline. Here’s how it connects to everything else:
| Stage | Tool | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Lead Sourcing | Apollo | ICP-filtered company + people search. Exported to Clay. |
| 2. Qualification + Enrichment | Clay | ICP filter → waterfall enrichment → signal scoring → Claygent research → AI personalisation |
| 3. Validation | Bouncify | Email validity check inside Clay. Invalid rows excluded before export. |
| 4. Cold Email | Instantly | Verified Tier 1 + Tier 2 contacts imported automatically via Make.com webhook. Signal-personalised sequences launch same day. |
| 5. LinkedIn Outreach | HeyReach | Same verified contact list imported to HeyReach. Clay’s personalisation fields feed connection request notes. |
| 6. Automation | Make.com | Clay → Instantly, Clay → HeyReach, positive reply → GHL pipeline all automated. Zero manual steps. |
| 7. CRM + Follow-Up | GoHighLevel | Positive replies from Instantly and HeyReach route to GHL automatically. 7-email nurture sequence fires. Call booked. |
Clay is the second step in this pipeline — but it’s the step that determines the quality of everything downstream. Better Clay output means better open rates, better reply rates, better call booking rates. It compounds.
Who This Is For
Six Figure Consulting’s Clay services are built specifically for a narrow profile. We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’ll tell you upfront if you’re not.
You’re a great fit if:
- You run a B2B agency, consultancy, or service business doing $500K–$5M/year
- Your average client deal size is $10,000 or more — making 15–20 qualified meetings per month genuinely worth $3,500–$5,500/month to you
- You’re either spending time manually building lists that should be automated, or you’ve already bought Clay and can’t get it to produce results
- You want to own your infrastructure — not be locked into a black-box agency where you never see the data or the workflow
- You’re willing to complete an onboarding questionnaire that tells us exactly who you target, what your offer is, and what a qualified lead looks like
You’re not a fit if:
- You’re a solo practitioner with a deal size under $5,000 — the economics don’t work for either of us
- You sell B2C, real estate, insurance, or SaaS at under $500/month ACV
- You want commission-only or pay-per-lead arrangements
- You’re already running a competing outbound or lead gen agency
Why Not Just Use an AI SDR Tool Instead?
Artisan, 11x.ai, and similar AI SDR platforms claim they can replace both Clay and your outreach stack in one subscription. The reality — documented in G2 reviews, Reddit threads, and a growing pile of cancelled contracts — is considerably different.
Here’s what we know from the data:
- AI SDR tools charge $1,500–$5,000/month for fully autonomous outreach — and report 50–70% annual churn rates
- Independent testing of 11x.ai documented $2,500 per positive reply. Artisan testing documented $550 per positive reply. Six Figure Consulting’s Clay-powered campaigns target under $50 per booked meeting
- AI SDR tools run on rigid templates with no signal-based personalisation. They burn your prospect list quickly and make it harder to run manual outreach to the same contacts afterwards
- 11x.ai was publicly exposed for falsely claiming enterprise clients and has since seen significant management changes. This is not a stable category
Clay gives you what AI SDR tools promise but can’t deliver: actual personalisation at scale, based on real signals, at a cost per contact that makes economic sense. The difference is that Clay requires expertise to use correctly — which is exactly what Six Figure Consulting provides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to already have a Clay account?
No. We can set up your Clay account, configure the workspace, and build all workflows before handing it over to you. If you already have a Clay account, we work in your existing workspace. We recommend the Explorer plan at $400/month for most clients.
How long does it take to go from kickoff to first campaign launch?
For the Clay Table Build (one-time setup): 7 business days from kickoff to a complete, tested Clay table. For the full Outbound Engine (Clay + Instantly + HeyReach + Make.com): 10–14 business days to first email sent.
Who owns the Clay workspace and all the data?
You do. Always. Everything is built inside your accounts. If you ever decide to stop working with SFC, you keep the entire Clay table, all the enrichment data, all the formulas, all the Claygent prompts. No hostage infrastructure.
Do you work with clients outside the UAE?
Yes. SFC is headquartered in Abu Dhabi but the majority of our clients are in the US and Canada. We also run campaigns targeting GCC markets (UAE, KSA, Qatar). All Clay work is async and timezone-independent.
Can Clay work for my specific industry?
Clay works for any B2B industry where your buyers are findable on LinkedIn and have identifiable buying signals. It works particularly well for: IT services and MSPs, management consulting, digital agencies, SaaS companies (high-ticket), staffing and recruitment firms, and financial advisory. If you’re not sure whether Clay is right for your ICP, book a strategy call and we’ll tell you honestly.
What results can I realistically expect?
Clay is a data and enrichment tool — it doesn’t book meetings by itself. Paired with properly configured Instantly campaigns and HeyReach LinkedIn outreach, SFC’s Clay-powered pipeline targets 15–34 booked meetings per month across all three campaigns (US IT Services, US Consulting, GCC B2B). Individual results depend on your offer, your ICP size, and your close rate on booked calls.
Ready to Stop Burning Clay Credits and Start Booking Meetings?
Book a free 20-minute strategy call. We’ll look at your current Clay setup (or help you start from scratch), diagnose the exact gaps in your enrichment workflow, and recommend the right service tier for your business. No pitch deck. No sales sequence. Just an honest conversation about whether we’re the right fit.
We work with a maximum of 10 active retainer clients at any time. If you’re reading this, spots are available — but we do close intake when we’re full.
